Experts reckon almost half the country was in bleary after-shock following what was the biggest Sunday for pubs and home-drinking since the Euro 2020 final in July last year.
Two million employees are expected to call in sick on Monday (December 5) while a bumper 17m staff work from home to keep headaches out of sight of bosses, according to employee absence analyst Bright HR.
A further 2m more workers will take the day as holiday with annual leave bookings up almost 10% compared to before the World Cup.
Alan Price, chief executive officer of Bright HR, said: ”World Cup mania has taken hold. "Some employees are making provision for Hangover Monday”.

"Annual leave bookings are up, Monday’s sickness absence rate is expected to rise and more employees will also work from home."
The quietest rush hour since summer was expected in the morning.
A spokesman for satellite navigator provider Tom Tom said: "The World Cup can change the usual pattern of commuting.’’

France is next up for England, with the quarter final coming on Saturday (December 10) at 7pm, with a date against either Morocco, Spain, Portugal or Switzerland awaiting Gareth Southgate's men in the semi-finals, should they find a way of stopping arguably the world's best striker in France's Kylian Mbappe in Qatar's Al Bayt stadium.
Either way, it's probably safe to say that should England do that, the country will probably be hungover well into Sunday afternoon . . . and probably Monday, too.
