A horrified estate agent whose advertising board in the shop window was hijacked to play porn is one step closer to finding the culprit.
The explicit images were broadcast to the public walking past Whitegates Estate and Letting Agents in Mirfield, West Yorkshire and left overnight.
A shocked passer-by uploaded a video of the incident on Friday (February 12) to Facebook with the caption: “I’ve got a few questions about this.”
The firm were quick to apologise and now believe the prankster struck after a power cut caused the board to restart, reports YorkshireLive.
That returned it to the Google homepage and the joker was then able to search for porn before sneaking off into the night.
The owner of the estate agents, Paul Bottomley, was left horrified and shared an update of their investigation to Facebook.
“I’m extremely sorry that this has happened on a display screen that is supposed to be there for the public to look at houses,” he said.
“After spending the last few days looking at the systems in the back we have not found any hacking evidence or breaches in the systems.
“We took the decision of plugging in the monitor today to find that after a power failure and restart, the screen defaults to a Google search page for a short time whilst rebooting where the touchscreen can be operated from the front.
“Therefore, we believe an 'opportunistic' individual who was passing searched for the image to leave on the screen.”
Whitegates added the screen would remain switched off until it was sure the incident could not be repeated and the firm thanked Mirfield residents for their understanding.
