Girl, 3, dies after mum left her in red hot car as she watered her cannabis farm

A three-year-old toddler died after her mum left her alone in a car for hours in 37-degree heat to tend to her cannabis farm, police say.

Little Jessica Campos, was not breathing when police arrived at the scene in Visalia, California, on Thursday, June 3.

Concerned neighbours had called the emergency services after noticing the child had been left in the parked vehicle for an extended length of time.

The Visalia Police Department say an officer had been attending to an unrelated call across the street and was on scene within seconds and took over CPR duties from family members who were trying to revive Jessica.

Once Fire Department and ambulance personnel arrived on the scene, they took over life-saving measures.

Jessica was transported by ambulance to Kaweah Health Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased.

Mum Eustajia Mojica Dominguez, 28, has since been arrested over the death, and is said to have been tending to a massive cannabis farm while her daughter suffocated in the searing heat.

The department's Narcotics and Special Enforcement Unit later uncovered 70 mature marijuana plants, 80 immature marijuana plants, and approximately 475 pounds of processed marijuana at the residence.

Four other adults who were in the residence at the time of the incident were arrested as well.

Police identified the four adults as Araceli Mojica, 33, Emmanuel Ortiz-Aguilar, 34, Valentin Aguilar Ortiz, 27, and Victor Flores Corona, 41.

Police say they face possible drug charges related to marijuana, while Mojica Dominguez was booked for involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment.

California law states that recreational marijuana is legal, but unlicensed growers can only harvest up to six cannabis plants, the New York Post reported.

In a statement, the Visalia Police Department said: "Based on statements obtained by detectives, it is believed that Jessica was left in the vehicle for two-and-a-half to three hours prior to being discovered. The outdoor temperature was determined to be at least 100 degrees (Farenheit) at the time of the incident.
