A four-year-old girl was saved from being kidnapped seconds before she was due to leave the UK with her abductor.
The youngster was moments away from embarking on a flight from Heathrow Airport to Bucharest, Romania, with her kidnapper when police halted takeoff at 6pm on Thursday.
Nottinghamshire Police used number plate recognition cameras to track the suspect's car from the county to the airport in London after being alerted by the girl's mum on Thursday.
Officers then used border checks to identify which flight they were on before bringing the taxiing plane to a halt.
Detective Sergeant Ruth Walker, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "When the report came in it was a race against the clock to find them.
"The plane was taxiing ready for take-off, but we were able to get there just in time before it took flight. The plane then returned to the terminal.
"This was a hugely complex and challenging case, with its obvious pressures."
A 32-year-old man, who is known to the child, was arrested before being released on conditional bail.
The girl has since been returned to her mum.
