Kate Middleton’s mum stepped in after she ‘struggled’ with baby Prince George

Kate Middleton's mum Carole has been described as "indispensable" after she stepped in to help look after Prince George, a royal commentator has claimed.

Carole is grandmother to George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, as well as Pippa's two children Arthur and Grace Matthews.

She stepped in to help Will and Kate with the children during the initial stages of their parenting, The Mirror reports.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge decided early on to raise their children without a nanny and to be hands-on parents.

Yet Vanity Fair’s royal correspondent Katie Nicholl claimed Kate found it difficult being a new mum alone with George.

In True Royalty’s documentary Kate Middleton: Heir We Go Again she said: “Kate was having a conversation with the Queen in which she confided that she had found being with George on her own, and not having a full-time nanny or a maternity nurse, very hard.

“William and Kate wanted to be hands-on parents, and they did it until September and then they recruited a nanny.”

Carole was reportedly the only person who stepped in to offer a helping hand with parenting duties before the royal couple hired Teresa Maria Turrion Borallo as a nanny.

The doting grandmother has previously described her love of spending time with the children, telling Good Housekeeping how she likes to play games with them and "muck around".

She also described days spent cooking, dancing and going on bike rides with all her grandchildren.

Ms Nicholl noted that despite Maria's appointment, Kate's mum Carole continues to help with her grandchildren on a regular basis.

She added: "One of the things that allows William and Kate to be so ordinary is the presence of the Middletons in their lives.

"Carole is a regular through those golden gates at Kensington Palace, she whizzes through in her Land Rover. There is no security because everybody knows her.”
