Labrador out-witted by clever duck who ‘deserves an Academy Award’

Footage of a Labrador being completely tricked by a duck has gone viral on Reddit, with many viewers amazed at the "Oscars-worthy" performance.

In the clip, which has been up-voted more than 44,000 times, the excited dog stands panting right next to a motionless duck who is playing dead in the grass.

The pooch waits while the duck lies on her front without moving a muscle the entire time.

Suddenly, the Labrador is distracted by something else and bounds off, at which point the duck leaps to her feet and scuttles away to safety with a surprising turn of speed.

The video was uploaded today, January 1, with the caption: "And the Academy Award goes to Duck."

People were quick to bury the comments section with puns, one person writing: "Ducked out of that one nicely."

Another person joked: "That dog should have suspected Fowl play."

Other viewers were surprised by the duck's guile and asked if it was a common way for them to avoid threats.

A viewer commented; "It’s really common, they will also fake a broken wing, flap around like they are wounded and lead predators away from their nests then when they are a safe distance fly off and circle back around to safety."

Sounding impressed, someone else wrote: "The way it waddles away at lightspeed!"

Labrador retrievers were originally bred to fetch things out of the water and were popular companions for hunters and fishermen.

This comes after a Labrador had to be rescued by firefighters when she swam for more than a kilometer chasing ducks and disappeared from the view of her panicking owner.
