A father suspected of killing his British son allegedly told his estranged wife “your hell has now begun” before committing murder-suicide.

Clemens Weisshaar, a German designer, is alleged to have killed his three-year-old son Tasso before shooting himself.

The 44-year-old was due to return his son to his wife Phoebe Arnold, but vanished along with him.

Ms Arnold, a British celebrity stylist, sparked a huge police search for the missing pair involving drones and sniffer dogs after chilling emails and WhatsApp messages were sent by her ex.

Weisshaar, who moved to Portugal with his partner-of-five years during the coronavirus pandemic, reportedly threatened to harm the youngster several times unless his wife changed her mind about divorcing him.

He last made contact with the boy’s anguished mum on November 4, three days after reneging on a pledge to hand him back.

On Sunday, hunters found Weisshaar with a gunshot wound to his head near his burned-out car on remote mountainous land near the village of Santa Margarida da Serra.

His son’s body was found inside a burnt out vehicle with forensic experts trying to determine whether the youngster was alive when his dad allegedly set the car ablaze.

Portuguese daily Correio da Manha cited police sources describing an email from the accused to Ms Arnold which read: “Your hell has now begun."

Ms Arnold left Weisshaar and moved to Lisbon with Tasso in July after he showed “several episodes of domestic violence” at their home in Grandola.

Former fashion magazine director Ms Arnold, who counts singer Paloma Faith among her clients, was letting her ex spend time alone with their son for the first time since their split.

Weisshaar had been doing up an old schoolhouse in a village a 20-minute drive south of Grandola, which was to be the former couple's future marital home.

Ms Arnold and Weisshaar had been dating since around 2016 and is believed they were married, but it is unclear exactly when this took place.

Portuguese daily Jornal de Noticas reported Weisshaar had become depressed following the split.

Ms Arnold was said to be in “deep suffering”, according to her lawyer Patricia Cipriano.

Mrs Cipriano was quoted by Mail Online as saying: “She is in deep suffering.

“She's just thinking about what she's going to do the next minute right now.

“She hasn't woken up to reality yet. She can't believe he is dead. She doesn't exactly know the circumstances of his death.”
