It’s been a turbulent 2022 for shoppers, with the cost of living crisis looming and energy bills rising, but now they have been hit with even more devastating news.
It comes after McDonald’s confirmed it was introducing adult Happy Meals to its menu, offering older customers the chance to purchase the child-favourite box.
The news was met with immediate excitement from customers who are hoping to grab themselves a slice of their younger years before the stresses of adult life existed.
Naturally, customers in the UK wanted a piece of the action but they are in for a disappointing update from the food giant.
Here is everything we know about adult Happy Meals.
What are McDonald’s adult Happy Meals?
Technically, the adult Happy Meal is the Cactus Plant Flea Market Box after the food chain partnered with streetwear brand called Cactus Plant Flea Market.
In a statement, the company wrote: “Everyone remembers their first Happy Meal® as a kid… and the can’t-sit-still feeling as you dug in to see what was inside.
"That little red box could turn a regular Tuesday into the best. day. ever. And now, we’re reimagining that experience in a whole new way — this time, for adults."
The adult Happy Meal comes with either a Big Mac or 10-piece nuggets, fries and drink.
You'll also get a nostalgia-fuelled toy of either Grimace, Hamburglar, Birdie or Cactus Buddy.
Are McDonald's adult Happy Meals available in the UK?
No, McDonald’s UK will not be rolling out the adult Happy Meals in the country, with bosses recently confirming the news.
A spokesperson for the company said: "We have no plans to roll this out in the UK."
Naturally, social media reactions poured in, with many disappointed over the recent news.
One Twitter user wrote: “Why isn’t the UK getting the adult Happy Meal? @McDonaldsUK explain yourself #McDonalds #UK.”
“Adult Happy Meals brought to America and not the UK… I'm a Happy Meal loyal and this makes me sad @McDonaldsUK,” another added.
A third commented: “Devastated that the new Adult Happy Meal at McDonalds will not be making an appearance in the UK.”
McDonald’s will likely decide the adult Happy Meals’ future by the American roll-out, so if it is successful there, maybe it’ll come here later down the line.
