Moped driver ‘rode up to victims including girl, 11, before groping them’

A man has been arrested in connection to a string of groping attacks – including one 11-year-old victim.

New York City police confirmed the suspect as 37-year-old James White, and believe he was related to six out of nine attacks in the borough of Manhattan.

In the footage shared by the police department, White is seen riding a red and black Fly-3 moped before speeding down the road.

Investigators confirmed the moped was identical to the one used by the suspect.

Detectives from the Manhattan Special Victims Squad caught White on Friday, September 10, around 5pm near Grand and Forsyth streets in the Lower East Side, the Daily Mail reports.

The attacks took place between August 2 and September 6.

He drove up to the victims and allegedly grabbed their breasts before speeding off.

He allegedly targeted an 11-year-old girl walking down the road in one incident.

On August 26, a 15-year-old girl was attacked in the area of Hester and Eldridge Streets at 4.20pm.

Just five minutes later, the suspect allegedly molested a 20-year-old woman in the area of 315 Grand Ave.

"He was wearing a mask and hoodie and was looking for women who were around," Manhattan Special Victims Division Sgt. Ivan Rodriguez told the New York Post.

"It’s good to have him arrested, especially now that the school is opening and there are more and more young women in the area.

"These are serious crimes, sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl is a felony.

"Women should be able to walk the streets of New York without fear of being sexually assaulted."

White was charged with first-degree sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a minor and six counts of forcible touching, according to court records.

He is due to appear in the New York Criminal Court.
