Moment mother-in-law faceplants as she walks the plank during virtual reality game – and her son is too busy laughing to catch her

This is the moment a woman fell flat on her face as she walked along a plank while playing a virtual reality game – and her son was laughing too much to catch her.
Charlotte Sturge, from Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, filmed her mother-in-law Debbie trying out the immersive game Richie’s Plank Experience on Christmas Day.
The game sees you ascend the lift of a building, 80 storeys high, before you then ‘walk the plank’ jutting outside with a dizzying drop to street level.
The 34-year-old records Debbie – surrounded by family members – as she cautiously approaches the short piece of wood on the carpeted floor.

Debbie cautiously moves forward, as if on a tightrope – before panicking and losing her balance. Her son is seen in the image on the left, holding a drink
Wearing her slippers and a VR headset, Debbie puts one foot on the plank but is given a fright when someone shouts at her.
She then gathers her composure, looks around and says: ‘I am still in the lift’ – to which Mrs Sturge responds: ‘You need to get out of the lift, Deb.’
Debbie makes her way onto the plank, feeling her way along and exclaims that she can’t see her foot.
She slowly moves forwards, as if on a tightrope, and a family member can be heard saying: ‘She is going to fall into the TV or something.’
Debbie crashes to the floor, smacking her head on the carpet. Her son, who has failed to stop her fall, checks to see if she is OK. ‘She was surprisingly fine afterwards. Although, the next day she did say her elbows hurt a bit, but that was all,’ said Mrs Sturge
Within seconds, a panicked Debbie screams, loses her balance and falls to the side – smacking her face on the floor and almost hitting the Christmas tree.
Her family bursts into laughter – including her giggling son, nursing a drink, who fails to catch her.
Although Debbie’s elbows ‘hurt a bit’ afterwards, she was otherwise fine.
Mrs Sturge posted the video to Facebook on Monday, writing: ‘When you let the mother-in-law on the VR, you just know you need to film.
‘Anyone had any accidents on the VR yet? We’ve all had so much fun with ours. The game she’s playing is The Plank, but if I were you, don’t use a piece of wood as it actually makes it feel worse.
‘No mother-in-laws were hurt in the making of this video. I’m sure my husband could have caught her though.’

The post has received over 5,600 likes and more than 2,000 comments in just over a day.
Social media users found the video hilarious – and some shared their own experiences.
One wrote: ‘He literally just stood there with his beer and watched her fall to the ground. I ain’t spilling my beer for no one.’
Another said: ‘We love ours and the kids playing it cracks us up. I had an accident while playing the boxing game.
‘I full-forced punched the solid brick wall. Luckily no serious injuries, just a very bruised, very swollen, cut-up hand.’
Speaking today, Mrs Sturge said: ‘We got the VR for Christmas, and all day I was wanting to get my mother-in-law on it.
‘I thought she’d be scared of the plank game and how high up you are. My husband thought it would be a good idea to add a piece of wood so it felt like you were actually on a plank of wood.
‘Then you can see what happened, she lost her footing and thought she was actually falling from the plank 1,000ft up.
‘In the instructions, it does state you have to have someone standing close by in case you lose your balance. We didn’t see that bit.
‘She was surprisingly fine after the fall. Although, the next day she did say her elbows hurt a bit, but that was all.
‘After we found out she was OK, we all had a laugh about it. I just couldn’t actually believe she fell like that.’
