South Korea’s Joint Chief of Staff claims Pyongyang launched the missile on Tuesday but is at present unable to confirm what type of projectile was fired off the nation’s East coast.

The announcement from Seoul comes just days after Kim Jong-un showed off the newest nuclear missiles and accused the United States and South Korea of creating tensions.

According to reports in the state-run news agency KCNA, the North Korean Supreme Leader said he was increasing the nation’s military strength in an act of self-defence and warned it was necessary to develop such weapons amid hostility from Washington and Seoul.
