A mouthpiece for Vladimir Putin has been left a laughing stock after claiming the West was trying to divide the nation using Nutella.
The tasty chocolate treat was highlighted by Professor Dmitry Evstafiev as something that could be used to spread disunity among the Russian people.
Appearing on the Vladimir Solovyov show the academic slammed what he perceived as Western ambitions to win over his country’s regions.

In footage translated by Julia Davis of the Russian Media Monitor, Evstafiev said in response to criticism of the West’s intentions: “I’ve been thinking why are they doing this?
“They are hypocrites. The whole West is built on the principle of hypocrisy – political, cultural and every other kind.
“They have to say, ‘guys, surrender. Russians, surrender!
“‘We will give you Nutella, asphalt and toilet bowls.
“‘One toilet bowl for every region!’”

The comments appeared to be met with a rather awkward silence.
Captioning the clip, Ms Davis wrote: “Meanwhile in Russia: during Vladimir Solovyov's show, Professor Dmitry Evstafiev argued that the West wants to divide Russia by promising to supply its regions with Nutella, paved roads and indoor toilets.”
Evstafiev’s comments about the chocolaty wedge being used to drive apart the Russian people come amid a new wave of drone strikes on the Russian capital.
Both Moscow and Kyiv have been the target of a renewed aerial bombardment from unmanned kamikaze drones.
The alleged attacks on Russian soil, along with militant excursions in the Russian region of Belgorod, have incensed the Kremlin which has slammed efforts of escalation by the West.
