Royal Family in ‘uncharted territory’ as Queen’s public life ‘largely over’

The Royal Family is in “completely uncharted territory” due to the Queen's public life being almost over, a critic has claimed.

The Queen has been battling age-related issues for the majority of this year, which saw her back out of several events during her own Platinum Jubilee celebrations last month.

The 96-year-old has recently been seen relying on walking aides more and more.

And despite there being a clear and well-known line of succession, which will see Prince Charles eventually take over, it is now being said that the royals are less than confident about how to handle the Queen's remaining time on the throne.

Writing for news.com.au, Daniela Elser said: “The Queen, as we knew her before the pandemic and the death of Prince Philip, was a redoubtable, stoic presence who popped up with reassuring regularity in some riotously coloured coat to cut a cake or watch a tree being planted or inspect some new medical wing is gone.

“What the palace has just done is officially signal that the era of the Queen as a visible fixture in British life – the Queen as a comforting constant, is largely over.

“Sure, we can expect a regular trickle of photos and short videos put out via the Queen’s official channels of her gamely Zooming with a governor-general here and there or the bizarre Franken-engagement that is seeing Her Majesty accept the diplomatic credentials of some newly arrived ambassador via video call.

“But is a reign conducted almost exclusively behind closed doors really a reign at all?

“All of this is completely uncharted territory.”

When Her Majesty's reign does end, Prince Charles will take over, with Prince William following him.

Prince George is next in line, with Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis and Prince Harry coming in at fourth, fifth and sixth.

The younger members of the family – Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor and sister Lilibet are seventh and eight in line, while the Duke of York and Princess Beatrice complete the top 10.
