A man has claimed that his friend was called "an idiot" by a Ryanair customer care representative, for asking a simple question during his booking.

Sharing the surreal exchange on behalf of his friend, the man called Lee took to Twitter and showed screengrabs of the conversation.

His friend was chatting with a rep called Andras K when he said he had an issue with his booking. It appeared the man had booked through Opodo, a third party agency, who referred him to Ryanair when he ran into trouble.

In the conversation with the Irish airline, the customer service representative can be seen telling the customer that he should contact the agency if he has had issues with the booking.

The customer claimed each company was palming off the issue to one another.

Andras K wrote: "You made a reservation with a travel agency yet you are here talking to a representative of a flight company. Does it make sense to you?

"I've [been] telling you what is going on with your reservation and you are acting like an idiot."

Shocked, the customer replied: "Are you calling me an idiot? Wow."

Andras responded: "I said you are acting like one. But you cannot read apparently."

The customer reminded Andras that Opodo had told them to speak to Ryanair, describing both companies as "unhelpful".

They added: "And you think that by implying that I am the idiot, that is helping the situation?"

Andras replied: "Read back to the way you speak to an agent who's been trying to help you."

"If I was you, I would probably be looking for a role that is not in customer service," the customer responded.

"Yes you are right. Is there anything else I can help you with today?" Andras said, with the customer then repeating their original plea.

It is unclear if Andras, or another rep, helped the customer but their friend took to Twitter to share the exchange.

Tweeting grabs on the conversation, the man said he was "genuinely shocked" by Ryanair's customer service.

Daily Star has contacted the airline for comment.
