UK weather forecast latest: Britain hotter than SPAIN as 10-day heatwave to bring sizzling 30C sunshine THIS week

BRITAIN will bask in more high temperatures today -with a sizzling 30C heatwave expected to blast Britain this week.

The Met Office's Aidan McGivern said "many places will be fine with warm sunny spells for much of the time" – after parts of the UK clocking in HOTTER than Spain during Saturday.

Highs of 23C are expected in the South, East Anglia and in London while the north-west wilol see highs of between 19 and 20C.

Bookmaker Coral has slashed the odds to 1-2 (from 6-4) on 30C or higher being recorded in the UK before the end of the weekend.

The firm is offering 4-5 that this month ends as the hottest June on record, while it is 4-6 that this summer is the hottest ever in the UK.

Coral spokesman John Hill said: “It has been a sweltering week so far and things could still get hotter. We have slashed the odds on 30C or higher being recorded before the end of the weekend.

"This week could be a taste of what is to come over the next few months as our betting suggests we may be set for the hottest summer ever in the UK,” he added.

    A Met Office spokeswoman said: “We are looking at what could be hot conditions over the next few weeks, but it’s still very early to tell whether it will be the hottest June yet.

    “High pressure is starting to build which should lead to fine and dry conditions, with the occasional showery and thundery outbreaks.
    “We’re hopefully looking at what will be a very nice June indeed.”

    BRITS are set to sizzle again this week in another 10-day heatwave – as June could be the hottest on record.

    The UK is warmer than the south of France and Ibiza, with temperatures expected to smash 86F (30C) by the end of the month.

    Sunseekers packed out beaches, parks and beer gardens yesterday (SUN) as families made the most of the last day of the half term holidays.

    Temperatures peaked at 75.2F (24C) in London but some heavy rain and thundery showers drenched the south-west.

    Pedalos were out on Hyde Park, London, while surfers enjoyed the waves on the beach at Portreath, Cornwall.

    LONDON AND EAST ANGLIA SAW HIGH TEMPERATURES OF 24C TODAY

    Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said “many places will be fine with warm sunny spells for much of the time” on Saturday – particularly in the south east and central England.

    Temperatures will be highest in East Anglia and London with the mercury set to rise to 26C on Saturday afternoon.

    Sunday is also looking dry and sunny for most, with temperatures hovering around 24C mark in London, 20C in Birmingham and Leeds, and 18C in Edinburgh.

    MET OFFICE OUTLOOK MONDAY TO THURSDAY

    Monday:

    Low cloud clearing, except near some north-eastern coasts in Scotland, then many parts having a dry day with sunny spells, but some heavy showers developing in eastern areas of England.

    Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

    Mostly fine and dry on Tuesday. Clouding over from the west Wednesday and Thursday with rain in some northern and western areas, dry, bright and warm in the east.

    After days of scorching heat, Britain is set to return to a more familiar climate.

    While many parts of Britain will have a dry Monday, eastern England is heading for some heavy showers.

    Tuesday will be mostly dry but Wednesday looks likely to form for a lot of Wednesday and Thursday with rain in some northern and western areas.

    The next few days will see the sun and rain 'battle it out' in a mixed start to the weather for the week ahead.

    Tweeting it's ten day forecast, BBC Weather tweeted: "Next few days will bring mixed fortunes for some as we see a battle develop between high & low pressure across the UK.'

    On saturday the Met Office predicts UV levels will be high in London and the south east.

    It will be very high in Southampton, Swindon and Cardiff whilst further south west UV levels will drop to moderate.

    The odds have been slashed on this month going down as the hottest June on record.

    Having been a 6/4 shot yesterday, the bookies have cut odds to just 5/4 on this being a record-breaking hot June, as temperatures continue to rise across the UK.

    Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It’s looking increasingly likely this goes down as a record-breaking hot June, if the latest odds are anything to go by.”
