A leaked letter to the Washington Post from the US ambassador to UN warns of a “human rights catastrophe” if Russia invades Ukraine. The letter alleges that after invading Ukraine, Russia would torture, force disappearances and carry out “widespread human suffering” to Ukrainians. Those most likely to be targeted are: “Russian and Belarusian dissidents in exile in Ukraine, journalists and anti-corruption activists, and vulnerable populations such as religious and ethnic minorities and LGBTQI+ persons”. The letter comes as US officials say they have intelligence that says Russian frontline commanders have been given orders to begin an attack on Ukraine.

Reports of Russian shelling in Ukraine
Late on Sunday, Ukraine reported 74 incidents of shelling from the Russian army.
Around 64 of these incidents occurred from arms prohibited under the 2015 Minsk agreement, aimed at stopping the conflict between pro-Russia separatists and Kyiv in eastern Ukraine.
Tenions are rising in Eastern Ukraine, as cease-fire violations continue, as do multiple shelling incidents and the evacuation of civilians from the separatist regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.
