The 79-year-old falls behind Vice President Kamala Harris and Chief Medical Adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci according to the new ratings. As well as those two, the President also falls short of GOP Congressional leaders like House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

The approval rating for the commander-in-chief sits at an unimpressive 43 percent – placing him ninth out of 11 federal leaders.

The only two to be lower than President Biden are House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with 40 percent approval, and Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell at 34 percent.

But number one on the list is Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts.

Six out of 10 Americans asked in the poll were approving of the job he was doing in his role.

Speculation mounted at the start of December that the 79-year-old could be replaced during the 2024 Presidential election.

However, it may not be who many would expect, Vice President Kamala Harris.

Instead, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has been tipped to be the candidate.

Mr Buttigieg was recently questioned about the speculation that he may become a candidate for the next election.

He said: “It’s 2021. The whole point of campaigns and elections is, when they go well you get to govern.

“I’m excited to be part of a team led by the President and the Vice-President and I think that the teamwork that got us to this point is really just the beginning.”

Former Trump official Kayleigh McEnany spoke on Fox News about the Transportation Secretary’s response to the speculation.

She said: “This is on Air Force two, this is on Kamala Harris’ plane.

“She is sitting right there next to him.

“He is asked about 2024 speculation, people are saying he should be the next president, and his answer is not what it should have been.

“It should have been I stand behind Biden.

“It was telling that that was not the answer.”

Fox News contributor Joe Concha also discussed the polling numbers – suggesting that Buttigieg could be the preferred option.

Mr Concha said: “Behind the scenes, donors really, really want Pete Buttigieg.

“Forget the Vice President, they want him to be the nominee in 2024 at the top of the ticket.

“Because you look at the President’s poll numbers, barely more than one-third of the country approves of this President’s performance.

“Twenty-eight percent approve of Kamala Harris – that is not a winning ticket.”
