Australian PM clashes with UK over post-Brexit trade deal

Australia’s leader Scott Morrison has clashed with Boris Johnson’s Government maid claims that key climate commitments were dropped from the UK-Australia trade deal. Faced with questions on the post-Brexit deal, Mr Morrison stressed that during negotiation trade and climate concerns had been kept separate. He told a press conference on Thursday that “I do trade agreements I deal with trade issues.”
Mr Morrison responded: “Well it was about trade it wasn’t a climate agreement it was about trade.
“I do trade agreements and in trade agreements, I deal with trade issues,” he added.
“In climate agreements, I deal with climate issues.”
Sky’s Sam Coates added the problem with Mr Morrison’s statement was that it was “completely different” to the UK Government’s version of events.
Mr Coates told Sky News: “Now the significance of what Scott Morrison is saying is essentially he is saying well trade and environment are two completely different things.
“We don’t want to cross the stream, you hear that from quite a lot of Australian politicians.
“The problem with that however is that this is completely different to what the UK Government said.”
Sky News has reported that Government sources confirmed temperature targets are now “implicit” rather than set out in the wording of the deal.
