Mr Hancock has been appointd as a special envoy to the United Nations. He tweeted: “Honoured to be appointed United Nations Special Representative.”

“I’ll be working with the UN and UN Economic Commission for Africa to help African economic recovery from the pandemic and promote sustainable development.”

Mr Hancock quit in June after the Sun published pictures plus a video clip of him and Gina Coladangelo – both of whom were married at the time with three children – in a passionate embrace.
