Two snowstorms are barreling down on Denver this week. The first storm should arrive later Tuesday and another round Thursday evening.
Monday will be the driest day of the week with sun and a high around 50 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Scattered light snow or flurries will develop across the Front Range Mountains and Foothills late this afternoon and evening, becoming more widespread tonight. It will drop below freezing overnight with snow totaling up to two inches in the mountains with a dusting to half an inch possible in Denver. Roads may become slick in the high country, while it is unlikely to stick at lower elevations.
Tuesday will start somewhat dry before a chance of snow, rain and a wintry mix. A high of 47 degrees will keep any snow from sticking and will push some of the weather into rain. Eventually, temperatures will drop to freezing overnight with snow totaling up to an inch during Tuesday in the metro area. Winds could gust near 20 mph. Several inches of snow will be possible in the mountains and foothills with this wave of moisture. Slushy and snow-covered roads are expected Tuesday night.
Wednesday could be wet earlier in the day as temperatures peak near 50 degrees and drop near freezing overnight.
Thunderstorms, snow and more wet days are expected Thursday and Friday.
Denver could near three inches of snow this week, while some areas of the mountains could easily see a foot. Over an inch of water could be coming, which would add to an extremely wet March that has helped to slow a statewide drought.
The average date of the last snow of the season in Denver is April 28.
