A defiant Gov. Andrew Cuomo dug in his heels Monday and again vowed not to resign — while appearing to take a swipe at state Attorney General Letitia James’s probe into the sex-harassment claims against him.
Cuomo, asked about his potential future plans as he battles state and federal probes, told reporters at a press conference, “I did nothing wrong, period, and I am not resigning.”
The governor, who has previously refused to step down, even appeared to take a swipe at James’s investigation into whether he sexually harassed a string of former aides.
Cuomo also is the subject of state Assembly and US Justice Department investigations into whether his administration lied about the number of New York nursing-home fatalities caused by COVID-19, after he barred the facilities from turning away virus patients.
While Cuomo had called James “very competent’’ in March and described the probe process as “democracy’’ in action, he took a different tack Monday — amid reports the AG might make a bid for governor herself. Cuomo has said he will run for a fourth term.
“I’m not telling anyone to have faith in anything,’’ Cuomo said when asked about his belief in the investigation process.
“Let the reviews go on, and then I’ll comment at the appropriate time,’’ he said.
