A portion of Interstate 25 in Loveland was closed in both directions Saturday morning due to a crash involving a chemical spill, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. The area between exit 255 for Colorado Highway 402 (Johnstown) and exit 257 for U.S. Highway 34 (Loveland) is affected and is not expected to reopen until the early afternoon.
Loveland Fire Rescue Authority, Colorado State Patrol and CDOT responded at about 1:12 a.m. Saturday to a semi-truck and a fully involved diesel fire. The driver of the semi-truck, who was extricated from the vehicle, sustained minor injuries, LFRA reported. There were as many as 35 firefighters at the scene.
Traffic is being diverted to alternative route as crews are clearing the hazardous spill. CDOT is advising motorists to use U.S. Highway 287 or 85 and to expect several delays. About 12 hours are projected as being needed to close the area and clear the spill and the scene.
