Suspect in fatal Harlem shooting extradited from Virginia

A suspect nabbed in Virginia was finally extradited to New York this week and charged in the cold-blooded shooting of a man on a Harlem street in November, police said Wednesday.

Andrew Paige, 44, was picked up in Charlottesville five days after the Nov. 4 killing at West 112th Street and Lenox Avenue in Manhattan, according to police.

Paige was apprehended by members of the Manhattan Violent Felony Squad, 28 Detective Squad, Manhattan Homicide, and the Charlottesville Regional Fugitive Task Force, according to a post on Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison’s Twitter account.

Harrison also tweeted a video that officials said shows Paige shooting victim Jamel Smith, 31.

“The perpetrator in this video, later identified as Andrew Paige, walks up behind the victim and shoots him once in the back of the head,” Harrison tweeted.

Paige was finally transferred to New York on Tuesday after going through the extradition process, Chief Harrison said.

“Yesterday, after a month of extradition hearings, Andrew Paige was transferred from Virginia to Manhattan Criminal Court and formally charged with Murder 2,” Harrison’s account boasted.

“Excellent work by everyone involved. Keep up the great work and stay safe!”
